Human rights define how the government must conduct itself towards the individual, as well as providing protection against misconduct by government institutions and officials. This sector comprises not only important national aspects, such as criminal process law regulatory mechanisms, but human rights standards, for example, the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. Both the Latvian Constitutional Court and international human rights watch organizations such as the European Court of Human Rights and the UN Human Rights Committee play a meaningful role in human rights interpretation.
